Bathing is an important caregiving activity. However, it can be a frightening activity for those with dementia and may lead to negative interactions between the individual and their caregiver. These negative interactions can in many cases be prevented. As a result of extensive research, interventions have been developed to improve the bathing experience. The research has found that aggressive behaviors, care recipient distress and time spent crying or screaming can be decreased significantly.
The Bathing Without a Battle: Creating a Better Bathing Experience for Persons with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders CD and DVD offer person-centered methods for making the bathing experience more enjoyable for both caregivers and the people they are bathing. Over 20,000 copies of the CD have been distributed nationwide, and continues to be available for sale. The methods and principles displayed on both the CD and video will provide specific methods to make bathing a better experience for both the individual with dementia and their caregiver.
The materials are designed to provide specific information for the administration, licensed nursing staff and frontline caregivers. Practical visual examples of techniques and before and after situations are provided. In addition, perspectives of care providers are shared. CD/DVD are $50 each, with a discount of 50% for ordering 10 or more.
